Avocado soybean unsaponifiables (often referred to as ASU) are a natural vegetable extract made from avocado and soybean oils. It is a drug made from unsaponifiable components of avocado and soybean oil and has been a widely used preparation in Western European countries for the treatment of osteoarthritis pain.
ASU is not restricted to chondrocytes, but also affects monocyte/macrophage-like cells that serve as a prototype for macrophages in the synovial membrane. These observations provide a scientific rationale for the pain-reducing and anti-inflammatory effects of ASU observed in osteoarthritis patients.
Avocado Soybean Unsaponifiables or ASU refers to the organic vegetable extract that is composed of 1/3rd of avocado oil and 2/3rd of soybean oil. It has amazing potential to block inflammatory chemicals and thus restricts the degeneration of synovial cells while regenerating the connective tissue. Studied in Europe, ASU helps in the treatment of Osteoarthritis.
